National Children's Hospital, Dublin

The National Children’s Hospital is Ireland’s largest and most complex healthcare construction project. KH Engineering was appointed by main contractor BAM to deliver the full structural steelwork package — 700 tonnes of CE marked fabricated steel across a complex, curved structure that demanded the highest levels of precision detailing and quality management throughout.

Our Scope of Works

Our scope included the full design, fabrication, and erection of structural steelwork across the building’s distinctive curved form. The geometry of the structure required advanced 3D modelling in Tekla Structures and close coordination with the engineer and architect throughout the detailing process. All steelwork was fabricated at our Allenwood facility to Execution Class 4 (EXC4) — the highest standard in the industry — and erected on site by our in-house erection teams.

The Result

The project was completed on programme and to the highest standards of quality and safety. KH Engineering’s work on the National Children’s Hospital was recognised with the Steel Structures in Major Construction Projects award at the 2023 Irish Steel Awards — one of four industry awards won by our team since 2022.
